Netflix plans new versions of Roald Dahl stories with takeover deal

New versions of Roald Dahl’s beloved children’s tales are coming to the compact display screen right after Netflix struck a deal to purchase the firm that manages his legal rights.

The streaming huge has snapped up the late author’s whole catalogue of novels, which have been translated into sixty three languages and sold extra than 300m copies globally.

Netflix currently had an agreement in put to make animated programmes based mostly on Dahl’s works. It has tapped Oscar-successful director Taika Waititi to make a new series based mostly on Charlie and the Chocolate Manufacturing facility and is also developing an adaptation of the musical Matilda.

The firm is shopping for the Roald Dahl Tale Organization, which manages the legal rights to his people throughout publishing, Tv set, film, theatre and merchandise.

Ted Sarandos, co-main government of Netflix, and Luke Kelly, the story firm’s manager and grandson of the author, said: “As we bring these timeless tales to extra audiences in new formats, we’re dedicated to sustaining their unique spirit and their common themes of shock and kindness, whilst also sprinkling some clean magic into the combine.”

The deal is uncommon action for Netflix as it commonly only buys the legal rights for content material.

It will give the firm access to a wealthy new seam of content material for its 200m-moreover subscribers as it fights competition from the likes of Amazon Primary and Disney+.
