Panel to study edible oil pricing, sugarcane arrears

The Standing Committee of Parliament on Food, Shopper Affairs and Public Distribution, headed by Trinamool Congress leader Sudip Bandopadhyay, has made a decision to glimpse into the growing costs of edible oils. It will examine the value regulatory mechanisms and edible oil availability in the market place.

It will also look at the controversial situation of “payment of sugarcane arrears to farmers”. Farmers, specifically from Western Uttar Pradesh, have been protesting in opposition to the delay in payments for their deliver.

The panel will also examine “production, usage and pricing of sugar” and “development and promotion of sugar industry.”

Food management

Building of godown services by FCI, foods subsidy and its utilisation, post-harvest management of foodgrains, regulation of packaged commodities, mechanism of Value Monitoring System, standardisation of merchandise in the region are the other problems which will be taken up by the panel in the next a person 12 months. The Standing Committee on Power, meanwhile, has made a decision to take up the emerging situation of strength security in India.

The panel headed by JD(U) MP Rajiv Ranjan Singh will also audit electrification of rural India and examine the role of PFC Minimal and REC Minimal in making certain sustainability and trustworthiness.

Hydro initiatives

Performance of major hydro initiatives will also be reviewed by the panel. The Standing Committee on Railways, headed by veteran BJP MP Radha Mohan Singh, will look at the standing of vital and super-vital initiatives of Indian Railways.

Digitisation in Railways, reconstitution and restructuring of Railway zones, recruitment in Railways and introduction of higher velocity trains are the other matter to be reviewed by the panel.
